Mass copying, Repetition of Questions in JKSSB exams, Candidates demand cancellation of test

Exam : Graduate Level

The aspirants who appeared in the recently conducted JK Service Selection Board (SSB) Graduate level examinations for different posts in government departments on Monday accused the recruiting agency of failure to hold a fair screening test.

The aggrieved candidates complained of mass copying in examination halls across Kashmir. “There was no proper system to conduct fair exams. Blue eyed candidates were allowed to use cell phones inside the examination halls which made a mockery of the test,“ the aspirants said.

Besides, the agitated candidates said there was inconsistency and repetition of questions in the paper set by the SSB in the exam.

The SSB didn’t consider weightage of marks for different subjects which were part of syllabus for the examination. The questions asked in the exams were not in line with the syllabus prescribed,” the candidates said.

To top it all, the SSB according to the candidates had posed outdated questions in the current affairs section. The questions were not in relevance to the current affairs, the candidates said.

The aspirants said the test conducted on April 27 was mired in controversy with glitches and faults in framing questions obstructing candidates initially and later with the repetition of questions.

In Series C question no 84 and 148 were same, Mohammad Kaiser, a candidate said.

The examination was held fraudulently to benefit the favourites, said one of the aspirants whose examination center was in Women’s College MA Road Srinagar.

The aspirants demanded cancellation of the test. “The SSB must go for re-examination within fifteen days,” they demanded.

“Besides Kashmir region, there was mass copying and cheating in exam centres of Jammu region as well. So authorities should cancel the exams and notify dates for re-exams,” the aspirants said.

The aspirants threatened to hit roads if SSB didn’t cancel the exams and rescheduled the same in coming future.

The question paper had six parts: General English, General Knowledge and Current affairs, General Knowledge with special reference to J&K, General Science, Mental Ability test and Computer Applications and the exam carries 150 marks.

Chairperson SSRB Sarita Chauhan refuted allegations of mass copying. However, he said complaints about the errors in setting up of question paper will be examined after opening of office on May 08.

People don’t have any evidence to prove  that there was any mass copying in examination centres. But there are errors which do happen and we have a routine process for it through which students submit a representation to highlight any disparity or discrepancy in the question paper, Chauhan said.

She said the students will be able to submit their representations after offices open on May 08. “Answer key will also be uploaded after resumption of office, she said
