Unit-I
Recent perspectives on the concepts of Nationalism; The Indian uprising of 1857.
Emergence of the Indian National congress, Early Phase of Congress- Activities Achievements and failure.
Rise of extremis.
Unit-II
Partition of Bengal and Swadeshi Movement;
Rise of Economic Nationalism, Revolutionary Movements;
Genesis of and Reactions to the Morley-Minto Reforms.
Unit-III
Deoband Movement: Origin, aims, activities and impact;
Aligarh Movement and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and his relations with Congress;
Emergence of Muslims League and its role till 1919.
Unit-IV
Montague’s Declaration.
Genesis of and reactions to the Act of 1919;
Rowlatt Satyagrah and Jallianwalla Bagh
