Mild Intensity Earthquake Rocks Jammu and Kashmir, No Casualties Reported

A mild intensity earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 hit Jammu and Kashmir In the early hours of Sunday, reports suggested.

An independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng, said the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake struck at 05:15:34 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located at a depth of 5km and a latitude of 35.06°N and longitude of 74.49°E.

“According to the NCS, the earthquake was felt in several areas, including Bandipora, Sopore, Baramulla, and Ganderbal. The quake’s estimated energy release was 8.9 x 10^10 joules, equivalent to 21.3 tons of TNT. However, no casualties or damages have been reported so far.”

“The weather at the epicenter during the earthquake was scattered clouds, with a temperature of -16.5°C, humidity of 62%, and wind speed of 4 kts from NNE,” said Faizan.
