Death Toll Reaches 13 In Andhra Train Accident, 50 Injured; Track Restoration Work Underway
There was a rear collision between the two passenger trains near Alamanda-Kankatapalli in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh
The death toll in the Andhra Pradesh train collision incident has increased to 13 while around 50 people are said to be injured. East Coast Railway official said that the relief and rescue operations have been completed and track restoration work is underway in Vizianagaram district.
The accident happened after a few coaches of Visakhapatnam-Ragada train derailed following being hit by the Visakhapatnam-Ragada passenger train travelling on the same route in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district last evening. Relief and rescue operations are underway with the help of local administration and NDRF.
The Indian Railways’ accident relief trains has also reached the site.
“The rescue operation is over now…We have arranged buses and trains for the stranded passengers. A total of 18 trains have been cancelled and 22 trains have been diverted. We are trying to clear the track by 4 pm today,” said Biswajit Sahu, CPRO, East Coast Railway
