J&K faces heatwave; Kashmir sees hottest June day in 20 years

Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district recorded the second-hottest June day at 33.8 degrees Celsius, after recording a high of 34.9 degrees Celsius on June 25, 2005, according to IMD data.

Kashmir is currently facing a heatwave, with record-breaking temperatures. On Thursday, the valley witnessed the hottest day in 20 years, officials have said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius – which happens to be the hottest in June in 20 years. This temperature is seven notches above the seasonal average, IMD said.

In Srinagar, the last hottest day in June was recorded on June 25, 2025. The temperatures went up to 36.5 degrees Celsius that day.

Qazigund in the Kashmir valley, recorded the hottest day in 37 years, as the mercury rose to 34.7 degrees Celsius, IMD data showed. On June 26, 1988, Qazigund recorded a high of 35.7 degrees Celsius.
