Schools in Kashmir division, winter zones of Jammu to reopen tomorrow: Sakina Itoo
The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has announced that schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of the Jammu Division will reopen tomorrow, July 8 after the scheduled 15-day summer vacation. The department has also revised school timings in view of the ongoing weather conditions, ensuring a balance between student well-being and academic continuity.
Announcing the update, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo shared via a tweet, “We are reopening schools from tomorrow (July 9) in Kashmir Division & Winter Zones of Jammu Division. Srinagar & other municipal limits: 7:30 am – 11:30 am. Outside municipal limits (rural) from 8 am to 12 noon. After a 1-hour break, 2 online classes will follow. Teachers to remain available till 2 pm. All HoIs must ensure online classes are conducted without exception.”
According to the revised schedule, schools located within Srinagar and other municipal limits will operate from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, while those situated outside municipal limits (rural areas) will function from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. After a one-hour break, two online classes will be conducted, and teachers will be available until 2:00 PM to support students. All Heads of Institutions (HoIs) have been directed to ensure that online classes are conducted without exception.
Earlier, the department had declared summer holidays for government and private schools from June 23 to July 7 due to a prolonged heatwave. Before the break, authorities had also adjusted school timings in response to rising temperatures. With forecasts indicating an improvement in weather conditions after July 4, the department has ruled out any extension of the vacation period.
Officials reiterated that the 15-day break was sufficient and stressed the importance of resuming academic activities without further delay, citing the need to complete the syllabus and maintain learning momentum.
