1. World Ozone Day

   • Observed on 16 September. The theme for 2025 is “From science to global action.”

   • India’s efforts include reducing Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and implementing its Cooling Action Plan.

   • Significant reduction in CO₂-equivalent emissions achieved: ~42,62,100 MT CO₂ Eq. per year (2020 baseline) and ~76,97,600 MT from 2023.

2. Heavy Rain / Flood Alerts & School Closures

   • In Dehradun (Uttarakhand), all schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres closed due to red alert for landslides & flooding from continuous heavy monsoon rains.

   • In Manipur, schools & colleges to remain shut on 16 September due to continuing heavy rains/flooding etc

   • In Karnataka, IMD issued a yellow alert for several districts, heavy showers expected to continue.

   • Nagpur (Vidarbha region) also saw thunderstorms, lightning and warnings for widespread rains from 16-21 Sept.

3. Missile Test Notification – Bay of Bengal

   • Government of India issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen / Mariners) warning of a likely missile test in the Bay of Bengal region during 24-25 September 2025.

4. Market Sentiment & Trade Optimism

   • Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on 16 Sept driven by hopes of easing trade tensions (between India & USA) and improvements in US-China negotiations.

5. Sports

   • India achieved a historic victory in roller sports: Anandkumar Velkumar won gold in the senior men’s 1000m event, India’s first gold in the senior category at the Speed Skating World Championships. Additionally, Krish Sharma clinched gold in the junior 1000m.
