DA Hike: Double Good News for Government Employees This Diwali! Dearness Allowance to Increase This Much
DA Hike: This Diwali is going to be special for central government employees and pensioners.
The government may give two big pieces of good news to employees. First, it is expected to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 3%. Second, there may be an update regarding steps being taken toward the 8th Pay Commission. In October 2025, the government may announce a 3% hike in DA. At present, employees and pensioners are getting 55% DA. After the hike, this will rise to 58%.
1.2 crore people will benefit
This increase will directly benefit more than 1.2 crore employees and pensioners. With a rise in salary during the festive season, the spending capacity will also increase. That’s why the government often provides such relief to employees around Dussehra and Diwali.
DA is revised twice a year:
- For the January to June period
- For the July to December period
In March 2025, the government had increased DA by 2% for the January–June period, taking it from 53% to 55%. Now, for the July–December period, a 3% hike is being considered.
What will be the impact on pensions?
DA directly affects salary and pension since it is calculated based on basic salary or basic pension. For example, if a pensioner’s basic pension is ₹9,000, then with 55% DA they currently get ₹4,950. This makes the total pension ₹13,950. If DA rises to 58%, then DA will become ₹5,220, and the total pension will increase to ₹14,220. This means a benefit of about ₹270.
Why is this hike special?
Along with bonus and salary hikes during festivals, the increase in DA brings relief for employees and pensioners. In the current era of inflation, this hike will not only provide some financial relief but also boost their spending power during the festive season. This move by the government could prove to be good news for employees and pensioners ahead of Diwali.
