Eligibility Criteria :
Educational Qualification
For Electrician, Mechanic (Diesel), Machinist, and Fitter Trades:
- Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with at least 50% marks (for candidates with matriculation or ITI certificate)
- OR passed 10th class or equivalent examination
For Welder (Gas & Electrician) Trade:
- Candidates must have passed 8th class examination
Important: Only candidates who have passed by the date 01.12.2025 with National Trade Certificate (NCVT) issued by National Trade Certificate (NTC) or Provisional National Trade Certificate (PNTC) under the Apprentices Act, 1961, as per RBE No. 54/2017 and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship notification dated 02.03.2017, Schedule-I Column 5 will be eligible
Age Limit :
The age limit for PLW Patiala Act Apprentice Recruitment 2025 is:
For Electrician, Mechanic (Diesel), Machinist, and Fitter Trades:
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age: 24 years
For Welder (Gas & Electrician) Trade:
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age: 22 years
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years relaxation
- OBC candidates: 3 years relaxation
- Age relaxation will be given only to those candidates who have valid caste certificate till the last date of application
Age calculation date: As per date of birth recorded in school certificate
Vacancy Details :
The total number of vacancies for PLW Apprentice Recruitment 2025 is 225 posts. Category-wise vacancy distribution is as follows:

Candidates must be Indian citizens.
Disability Certificate for PWD Candidates
Persons with Disabilities applying under PWD category must possess disability certificate as per Annexure-VII. The suitability for PWDs as per RPWD Act for different trades is specified in the official notification.
Selection Process :
Candidates will be selected based on the following process:
- Merit-Based Selection: Selection will be based on merit obtained in Matriculation and ITI examinations
- Merit list will be prepared based on average marks obtained in both Matriculation and ITI examinations
- For candidates who have passed Matriculation with at least 50% marks and completed 50% marks in ITI affiliated by NCVT or SCVT, marks will be calculated as: (Matriculation marks 70% + ITI marks 80%)/2 = 75%
- Document Verification: Selected candidates will be called for document verification
- Medical Examination: Candidates must bring medical certificate signed by Government Authorized Doctor (Gazetted) at the time of document verification
Note: No person will be eligible for selection under Craftsman Training Scheme if they have already benefited from the training.
Salary/Stipend :
The stipend rate for Act Apprentices as per Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship notification GSR 610 (E) dated 03.09.2025 (forwarded by Railway Board vide RBE No. 116/2025) is as follows:

Processing Fee: Rs. 100 + bank charges
Payment Mode: Online (Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking)
Candidates whose processing fee is not approved will have to submit the fee again within 48 hours after logging in
How to Apply for PLW Patiala Act Apprentice Recruitment 2025?
Eligible candidates can apply online for PLW Patiala Act Apprentice 2025 by following these steps:
Visit the official website: www.plw.indianrailways.gov.in
Under Departments section, go to Personnel department and click on “Misc Activities” link for “Engagement of Act Apprentices”
Read the official notification carefully
Before applying online, keep the following documents/information ready:
- E-mail ID
- Latest photograph in JPEG format (scanned, size not more than 100 kb)
- Signature in Hindi or English in JPEG format (scanned, size not more than 25 kb)
- Bio-data including name of applicant, father’s name, mother’s name, and correct name as per matriculation and ITI certificate
- Matriculation and ITI certificate with marks obtained
- If CGPA is mentioned, convert it to percentage (multiply CGPA by 9.5)
- Caste certificate (if applicable)
- Mobile number
First, register on the National Skill Development Corporation portal: https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in
After registration, click on ‘New User Registration’ to create Login Name, Name, City, Mobile No. & email ID
System will send Login Name and Password to applicant’s email ID
Login with User Name and Password and click GO button
Fill the application form with correct details
Candidates are advised to fill their details completely before submitting. Save the data first by clicking ‘Save Data’ button, then click ‘Submit’ button
System will generate an ‘Application Number’ – note this carefully
After submission, candidates whose processing fee is not approved must submit the fee within 48 hours
Click ‘Here For Payment’ link to pay the fee
Select State of Corporate/Institution as ‘Punjab’, Type of Corporate/Institution as ‘Government Department’, and select ‘PLW Indian Railways Patiala’
Select Payment Category as ‘Apprentice Recruitment’ and enter your Application Number (Registration Number)
After successful payment, you will receive options to pay fees separately. Select the appropriate option
Take printout of Online Fee Payment e-Receipt for future reference
Important Notes:
Candidates must apply through the online medium only. No other mode will be accepted
Any mistake during online application will be the candidate’s responsibility
Applicants should keep their application fee receipt printout safe where processing fee is mentioned
Candidates whose processing fee is not approved must submit documents again without any mistake
Candidates applying through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship website on NCVT MIS portal for registration and complete detail filling will have their printout of filled details available
Important Instructions :
Merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in both Matriculation and ITI examinations
Shortlisted candidates (1.5 times the number of vacancies for each trade from the official website of P.L.W./Railway Patiala) will be called for document verification as per the schedule provided under Engagement of Act Apprentices in Departments section under Personnel
The verification list will be available on the website till 20.01.2026
Selection process will be conducted in February 2026
One year of training will be provided for Mechanic (Diesel), Machinist, Fitter, and Welder (Gas & Electrician) trades as per the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992
Candidates must meet the prescribed educational and technical qualifications as per the Apprentices Act, 1961 and other relevant acts and rules
The candidates must bring medical certificate signed by Government Authorised Doctor (Gazetted) not below the rank of Asst. Surgeon of Central/State Hospital at the time of documents verification
No travel allowance will be provided to candidates appearing for selection under any rules of Apprentices Act, 1961
Apprenticeship training period will be as per Apprenticeship Act, 1961 and applicable rules
After completion of training, candidates are not guaranteed employment in Patiala Railway Workshop, Patiala. No railway pass, free medical facilities, or PTI-0 facilities will be provided
Candidates must bring all documents at their own expense for verification
