No Snowfall in Plains as Major Western Disturbance Moves Out of J&K
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed largely dry weather conditions on Saturday, with no snowfall reported in the plains, in line with earlier forecasts, as relatively higher temperatures prevented snow formation at lower elevations.
Weather observers said the major Western Disturbance that influenced the region over the past few days has largely moved out, significantly reducing the chances of widespread precipitation across most parts of the Union Territory.
However, the impact of another weak Western Disturbance may bring light rain or snowfall in isolated areas between Sunday afternoon and early Monday, particularly in parts of north Kashmir. Weather models suggest that any precipitation during the late-night or early morning hours could fall as snow in the plains if temperatures dip sufficiently.
Forecasters cautioned that while no significant system is currently active, residual moisture in the atmosphere from the previous disturbance could still trigger sporadic precipitation, especially over higher reaches.
Meteorological models are not indicating any major weather activity across most areas of Jammu and Kashmir, though higher-altitude regions may continue to experience brief spells of snowfall.
Authorities have advised residents, especially those in upper reaches and north Kashmir districts, to remain alert to changing weather conditions, even as overall conditions are expected to remain largely stable over the next 24 hours.
