A weak Western Disturbance is expected to influence Jammu and Kashmir from late Friday afternoon, bringing a short spell of light snowfall to higher elevations and cloudy weather over the plains, according to weather experts.
Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad said light snowfall is likely in upper reaches such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg, as well as across major mountain passes, mainly during the evening hours.
He added that the Kashmir Valley plains may experience overcast conditions, with chances of light rain or very light snowfall at isolated places.
Ahmad noted that the system is weak and will have a brief impact, largely confined to higher altitudes. Daytime temperatures are likely to dip slightly, while night temperatures could fall marginally in areas receiving fresh snow.
However, more active weather systems are lined up ahead. A moderate Western Disturbance is forecast to affect the region between January 19 and January 21, potentially bringing widespread snowfall to higher reaches and light.
