Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting an extension of the NEET-UG 2026 application deadline for students from Jammu and Kashmir.
In her letter, she stated that many students in the Union Territory are facing serious difficulties while applying for the exam due to internet connectivity issues, particularly in parts of Kashmir where only low-speed internet services are currently available as part of administrative measures to maintain law and order. Because of these limitations, several aspirants are struggling to complete the online application process within the given deadline.
She highlighted that NEET-UG is a vital examination for students seeking admission to medical and related courses. Any inability to submit applications because of connectivity problems could negatively impact the academic future of many candidates. She also noted that a large number of students, especially those living in remote and rural areas, depend heavily on stable internet services to access and complete the online application process.
Considering these challenges, she requested the Union Education Minister to extend the last date for submitting NEET-UG 2026 applications. This extension, she said, would ensure that all eligible students from Jammu and Kashmir—particularly from the Kashmir division—get a fair opportunity to apply.
She further urged the minister to consider the request sympathetically and take an early decision in the interest of students across the region.
