Eligibility Criteria 2026 :

SSB Constable Tradesman & Driver eligibility criteria include nationality, age limit, educational qualification, trade experience and medical/physical standards, and all conditions must be fulfilled as on the closing date of application.

Nationality :

For Constables (Washerman, Barber, Water Carrier, Waiter, Tailor, Gardener, Cobbler): The candidate must be a citizen of India.

For Constables (Driver, Veterinary, Carpenter, Nursing Orderly): Only Indian citizens will normally be appointed, but subjects of Nepal or Bhutan are not debarred subject to Central Government permission.

Age Limit :

The crucial date for determining age and all eligibility criteria is the last date for receipt of online applications, i.e. 30 days from the date of publication in Employment News.

Constable (Veterinary): 18 to 27 years

Constable (Driver) – Male: 18 to 27 years

Constable (Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter): 18 to 23 years

Constable (Carpenter): 18 to 25 years

Constable (Nursing Orderly): 18 to 27 years

Age Relaxation

SC/ST: 5 years

OBC: 3 years

Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service rendered from actual age.

Departmental candidates (Central Government employees) and special categories such as J&K/Ladakh domiciles and dependents of 1984 riot victims get relaxation as per notified limits.

Educational Qualification :

Educational and professional qualifications for SSB Constable Tradesman & Driver Recruitment 2026 are post-specific and must be from recognised boards/ITI/Institutes.

Recruitment agency services

Constable (Veterinary): 10th pass with Science as main subject from a recognised board and 1 year experience in treatment of different species of animals in a recognised veterinary hospital.

Constable (Driver) – Male: 10th pass from a recognised board and must possess a valid Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence.

Constables (Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter): Matriculation or equivalent plus either 2 years work experience in the respective trade, or 1 year certificate course from recognised ITI/Vocational institute with at least 1 year experience, or 2 years diploma from recognised ITI in the trade or similar trade; must qualify trade test; multi-skilled candidates will be given preference.

Constable (Carpenter): Matriculation or equivalent and either 2 years work experience in the trade, or 1 year ITI/Vocational certificate with 1 year experience, or 2 years ITI diploma in the trade; must qualify trade test.

Constable (Nursing Orderly): 10th pass, First Aid certificate from St. John’s Ambulance Organisation or Red Cross Society of India, and minimum 1 year working experience as Nursing Orderly in a 50-bedded hospital/institution recognised by Central/State Government.

Candidates who are appearing in examination/awaiting results or not in possession of educational/professional certificates on the last date of application need not apply.

Selection Process :

The SSB Constable Tradesman & Driver Selection Process 2026 comprises multiple stages, and only those candidates who qualify each stage as per SSB norms will be considered for final appointment.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET): For Constables (Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter & Nursing Orderly), PET consists of 4.8 km race in 24 minutes for male candidates and 2.4 km race in 18 minutes for female candidates; Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET but must attend other stages.

Physical Standard Test (PST): Candidates who qualify PET will undergo PST where height and chest (for male candidates) are measured as per category and region-wise standards; those not meeting minimum standards are rejected.

Written Examination: Objective-type written test as per SSB pattern for Constable posts (detailed scheme to be provided on official website/notification).

Trade/Skill Test: Practical trade test for Tradesman posts and driving/maintenance test for Driver post to assess hands-on skills.

Documentation & Medical Examination: Verification of original documents, certificates, category proofs followed by medical examination as per SSB medical standards.

 

Exam Pattern 2026

The SSB Constable written exam pattern 2026 for Tradesman, Driver and other posts will generally include questions from General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, Reasoning and Trade-related subjects as per SSB guidelines.

Candidates are advised to refer to the detailed exam scheme and syllabus published on the official SSB website and in the detailed recruitment notification before starting preparation.

Salary :

All SSB Constable Tradesman, Driver, Veterinary, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly posts are placed in Pay Level-3 (₹21,700–69,100) of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

In addition to basic pay, Constables are entitled to Dearness Allowance, Ration Money Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other admissible allowances, and will be covered under Defined Contributory Pension Scheme or Unified Pension Scheme as applicable for new central government entrants.

 

Application Fee :

UR, EWS and OBC category candidates will require to pay examination fee amounting to Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred) only (Non Refundable) through net banking/credit card/debit card/UPI. However, SC, ST, Ex-Serviceman and female candidates are exempted from payment of examination fees.

Applications submitted without successful online fee payment (where applicable) will be rejected, so candidates must carefully follow the payment steps on the SSB recruitment portal.

How to Apply ?

Eligible candidates can apply online for SSB Constable Tradesman & Driver Recruitment 2026 within 30 days from the date of publication of the advertisement in Employment News by following the steps given below.

Visit the official SSB recruitment website and open the Constable online application link for Advertisement No. 524/RC/SSB/Combined Advt./CT to SI (Non-GD)/2025.

Complete the registration using a valid email ID and mobile number, then log in and fill in personal, educational and communication details in the SSB Constable online application form.

Select only one post from the available Constable posts (a candidate can apply for only one post) and upload scanned copies of photograph, signature and required documents in the prescribed format and size.

Pay the application fee online, if applicable, through the available digital payment methods and submit the form; take a printout of the final submitted application for future reference.

Important Instructions

Only eligible candidates may apply and minutely go through all the provisions & requirement in the notification to ensure that he/she is eligible for the post for which he/she is applying.

Candidates should bring all original documents i.e. matriculation, technical pass certificate along with self attested Photostat copies of the same at the time of documentation, failing which candidature of candidate will be rejected in the documentation stage of recruitment.

Name, Father’s Name & Date of Birth should be mentioned exactly as recorded in Matriculation certificate. In case of change the same must be supported by necessary documents, otherwise, the candidature will be rejected.
Persons employed in Government/ Semi-Govemment/ Public Sector Undertakings should apply through proper channel.

No objection certificate from their employer will be required to be submitted at the time of documentation.

Falsification/Forgery of documents to mislead the Recruitment Board or to gain access to examination would lead to legal/ debar action against the candidate, besides cancellation of his/her candidature and debarring him/ her for future examination.

Admit cards/call letters to appear in recruitment process will be uploaded on SSB official website https://recruitment.ssb.gov.ln/& https://ssb.gov.in/.

The Goverment/ SSB shall not be responsible for damage/ injury/death/ loss to the individual, if any, sustained during the entire recruitment process/journey.

The DG, SSB has full right to make changes/ cancel/ postpone the recruitment without assigning any reason.

Candidates canvassing in any form/ bringing outside influence/pressure/ offering illegal gratification/ blackmailing/threatening to blackmail any person connected with recruitment will be disqualified. It should, however be clearly understood that the Recruitment Board reserves, absolute discretion to reject or accept any candidate at any stage.

Mere qualifying all the prescribed tests in SSB recruitment does not confer the right to any candidate for final selection.

Change in category will NOT be entertained once registered and the candidature of such candidate shall be cancelled.

Candidates who are not in possession of certificate of minimum education qualification by closing date of receipt of applications i.e. 30 (thirty) days from the date of publication of this advertisement in the Employment News need not to apply.

Calculator, Digital Diary, Cellular Phone, pager, Whiteners, blade etc. are prohibited in the recruitment venue.

The candidates will not be considered for recruitment if involved convicted/arrested in any criminal case under IPC or any other Act of the Central Government or State Government.
