Balendra Shah (Balen) was appointed Prime Minister of Nepal on Friday, becoming the youngest elected leader to assume the country’s highest executive office.
Ramchandra Paudel formally appointed Balen—parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)—in line with Article 76(1) of the Constitution, according to an official statement from the President’s Office.
At 35, the rapper-turned-politician has also made history as the first prime minister hailing from the Madhes region.
President Paudel is set to administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed prime minister at Sheetal Niwas at 12:34 pm, said Kiran Pokharel, press adviser to the president.
