Health Minister Sakina Itoo on Sunday announced that 64 positions have been created at the Bone and Joint Hospital to ensure the effective functioning of the newly inaugurated 120-bed additional block.
In a post on X, she stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the construction and inauguration of the block were expedited, with immediate instructions issued to make the facility operational.
Initially, services at the new block were managed through internal arrangements. However, formal approval for the new posts has now been granted with the concurrence of the Finance Department and the Council of Ministers.
The sanctioned positions include senior residents in Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, and Microbiology, along with Resident Medical Officers, Casualty Medical Officers, nurses, technicians, administrative personnel, and support staff to strengthen healthcare services.
Specifically, the approvals include four Senior Residents in Orthopaedics; one each in Medicine and Surgery; three in Radiology; and one in Microbiology. Additionally, three Resident Medical Officers and three Casualty Medical Officers have been appointed.
Administrative roles include positions such as Accountant, Accounts Assistant, Head Assistant, Section Officers, and Junior Assistants.
Among technical staff, posts have been created for Anaesthesia Technicians, Theatre Assistants, Blood Bank and Lab Technicians, Physiotherapists, X-ray technicians, and ECG technicians.
Nursing and auxiliary roles include Theatre Nurses, Senior and Junior Grade Nurses, and a Lady Health Visitor. Additional support staff such as attendants and orderlies have also been sanctioned.
The minister emphasized that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare infrastructure is not only developed but also adequately staffed and accessible to the public.
