Petrol, however, has been left untouched, with its export duty holding at nil
The government has more than doubled the export duty on diesel, hiking it from Rs 21.5 per litre to Rs 55.5 per litre on Saturday, while simultaneously raising the levy on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from Rs 29.5 per litre to Rs 42 per litre.

Petrol, however, has been left untouched, with its export duty holding at nil — a signal that domestic petrol supplies are considered adequate for now.
The steep revision reflects government’s continuing effort to curb the export of refined fuels at the expense of domestic availability, particularly as global energy prices remain volatile.
Government sources said that the export duty hike was not about boosting revenue for the government, but “it is more about not allowing exporters to take undue advantage due to price differences.”
