India squad vs Afghanistan announced: The BCCI on Tuesday announced the squads for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, comprising one Test and three ODIs. The series gets underway with the one-off Test, set to be played between June 6-10 at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. The Test is not part of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.

The focus will then shift to ODIs, which marks the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Indian colours. However, Rohit’s availability remains subject to fitness. His Mumbai Indians’ teammate Hardik Pandya’s participation also remains doubtful due to similar concern. Both India stars have missed matches in the ongoing edition of IPL due to injuries.

The 50-over format starts from June 14 with the first encounter set to be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. The second and third ODI are scheduled to be played in Lucknow and Chennai on June 17 and 20 respectively.

Meanwhile, the biggest development has been Rishabh Pant’s demotion. The wicketkeeper-batter has been stripped off vice-captaincy, with KL Rahul performing the role in the red-ball format. In addition to it he has also been dropped from the ODIs.

Pant’s LSG teammate, Prince Yadav, who made a decent impression in IPL 2026, earned his maiden call-up to the national side, along with Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey. All three are part of the white-ball squad.

Manav Suthar has been named in India’s Test squad, making it his maiden India call-up. Brar and Dubey are also part of the Test team.
