Eligibility Criteria & Job Requirements

Candidates must fulfill the minimum qualifications specified for the Telecom stream:

Educational Qualification :

Core Qualification (Telecom Stream): Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent from a Central Govt./State Govt. recognized Institution/University in any of the following disciplines: Telecommunications, Electronics, Radio, Computer, Electrical, Information Technology (IT), or Instrumentation.

Alternative Qualification: M.Sc. (Electronics) or M.Sc. (Computer Science).

Higher Qualifications: Candidates possessing M.Tech. in the prescribed disciplines are also eligible to appear in the Direct Recruitment examination.

Vision Requirement: The applicant must be capable of distinguishing principal colours and should have binocular vision.

Nationality: Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.

Fee must be paid through online mode only (Internet Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card) on the BSNL website: www.externalexam.bsnl.co.in. Fee once paid is non-refundable.

Selection Methodology

The selection process is conducted through a Computer Based Multiple Choice Objective Type Test (CBT) as follows:

Written Examination (CBT): 3 hours duration, comprising 120 questions for a total of 480 marks across three sections.

Marking Scheme: +4 marks for each correct answer and -1 mark for each wrong answer (negative marking applicable).

Minimum Qualifying Marks: Minimum 40% in each section individually. Overall minimum qualifying marks in all three sections combined: 50% for Unreserved/OBC (CL) candidates; 45% for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwBD/EWS candidates.

Document Verification: Selected candidates in the declared merit list will be called for document verification. Date and venue will be intimated in due course.

Medical Examination: Appointment of selected candidates will be subject to passing BSNL’s Medical Examination as per standards laid down by BSNL.

How to Apply ?

Eligible candidates must complete the online registration process as follows:

Visit the BSNL official examination website: www.externalexam.bsnl.co.in and register online only. No manual/paper applications will be entertained.

Keep the following ready before registering: valid mobile number and email ID (for OTP), scanned passport size colour photograph (jpg/jpeg, 20–50 kb, white background), scanned signature (jpg/jpeg, 10–20 kb), Class 10th Certificate (date of birth proof), Degree Certificate and consolidated marksheet, photo identity proof (Aadhaar/Passport/Driving License/Voter ID), valid category/reservation certificate as applicable, and Medical Certificate for PwBD candidates.

Pay the requisite non-refundable examination fee online through Internet Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card.

After completing registration, take a printout of the computer-generated registration form and retain it for future reference.

An editing window will be open for 7 days after the registration period closes (July 4–11, 2026). Selective fields can be edited during this period only.

Candidates currently employed in Government Departments/Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous Bodies must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their present employer at the time of document verification.

Candidates must select up to 21 Circle preferences (in order of preference) from the registration portal dropdown menu. Options once exercised shall be final.

Admit cards can be downloaded from the BSNL website using the registered username and password well before the examination date.
