Minister Says Selection Marks Major Milestone for Athletes, Urges Youth to Pursue Sports as Career and Nation-Building Opportunity
Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma on Tuesday congratulated 223 outstanding sportspersons selected under the Sports Quota in Jammu and Kashmir, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in their sporting journey.
In a post on X, as per news agency that, Sharma expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his support and said that the appointment orders would be formally handed over to the selected athletes by the Chief Minister.

The Minister said the selection of 223 sportspersons reflects the government’s commitment to supporting athletes and creating meaningful career opportunities through sports.
He emphasized that efforts are underway to further strengthen institutional support for athletes and connect the youth of Jammu and Kashmir with national and international sporting platforms so that sporting excellence becomes both a matter of distinction and a viable professional career.
Sharma also called upon students and young aspirants across Jammu and Kashmir to view sports not merely as a recreational activity but as a serious avenue for character building, professional growth and nation-building.
He said the success of the selected athletes should inspire young talent across the Union Territory to pursue excellence in sports and strive to make their mark at higher levels of competition.
