Maharashtra rains live updates: Heavy monsoon showers continued to batter Maharashtra on Monday, severely disrupting rail and road connectivity between Mumbai and Pune, while authorities ordered the closure of schools and colleges across Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Palghar as a precaution.
Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Sachin Ahir said, “…We have come to monitor the situation, assess its consequences, and determine how to safeguard the city.
The administration informed us that the wind speed was extremely high, creating a cyclonic-like situation in Mumbai. As a result, you must have seen that many trees fell, and some dilapidated buildings also collapsed.
We are here to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future. We are reviewing the precautions the administration will take and the measures they will implement to ensure that no Mumbaikar is inconvenienced. Today, schools and colleges have been closed.
Tomorrow, as per the information we have received, the cyclone is expected to move away from Mumbai, and its intensity is likely to reduce significantly. Therefore, we do not expect such strong winds or cyclone-like conditions tomorrow.
However, we have instructed the administration to continue monitoring the situation and ensure the safety of the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra.”

Police urge residents to stay indoors as heavy rain continues
Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti has urged citizens to avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary amid the ongoing heavy rainfall. He said police personnel have been deployed across the city to assist residents, adding that people can approach the nearest police officer or call the emergency helplines 112 or 100 for any assistance or information.
Search operation for boy swept away continue despite difficult weather conditions
In a rain-related incident, an intensive search operation is underway in the Nagaon area of Ambernath taluka after a boy was swept away by the strong river current. Teams from the local administration, fire brigade and other rescue agencies have been deployed, with efforts continuing despite adverse weather and rising water levels. Authorities said the search is being carried out on a war footing.
17 flights cancelled, 217 delayed; Nashik on cloudburst alert

Authorities have also issued a cloudburst alert for Nashik on Tuesday as a strengthening low-pressure system is expected to bring extremely heavy rainfall, urging residents to remain alert and follow official advisories.

‘All BMC schools closed till Tuesday’: Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Monday said all Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run schools will remain closed until Tuesday as the city continues to receive heavy rainfall. She added that the closure could be extended by another one or two days depending on the weather situation.
13 deaths so far
Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan said Mumbai and neighbouring Palghar and Raigad districts have witnessed a record-breaking rainfall, and 13 persons were killed in rain-related incidents in the last three to four days.
