Govt to Take Call on Summer Vacation Extension Tomorrow: Minister Sakina Itoo
*Says Weather Situation Under Review; Students’ Health Will Remain Top Priority in Final Decision*
The Jammu and Kashmir Government will take a final decision on Sunday regarding the possible extension of summer vacations in schools after reviewing the prevailing weather conditions, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said on Saturday.
Itoo said the government is closely monitoring the weather situation and will decide on the reopening of schools after assessing the latest conditions.
“There is still one day left in the summer break. We are assessing the weather conditions, and the government will take a call on extending the vacation soon,” the Minister said.
She said the health and well-being of students remain the government’s foremost priority.
“There is no doubt that weather conditions in Kashmir are changing. For us, the health of students is more important than anything else,” she said.
The government had earlier announced summer vacations for all schools in the Kashmir Division and winter zones of the Jammu Division from July 6 to July 19 in view of the prevailing heatwave.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast that the heatwave is likely to persist till July 19 and has warned of heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods across parts of Jammu and Kashmir between July 20 and July 23.
