Baramulla Admin Orders CCTV Installation At All Commercial Establishments And Telecom Towers
*District Magistrate Invokes BNSS Section 163, Cites Security aconcerns And Rising Crime*
Barmulla, Aug 1: The District Administration Baramulla has made it mandatory for all commercial establishments and telecom tower sites in the district to install high-resolution CCTV surveillance systems.
In an order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, District Magistrate Baramulla cited the prevailing security scenario and the need to strengthen surveillance to prevent crime and subversive activities.
As per Order No: 29-DMB/2026 dated 01-08-2026, a copy which lies states that the directive follows recommendations from SSP Baramulla, who noted that 65 to 70% of commercial establishments in the district are yet to install CCTV cameras. The SSP also highlighted vulnerabilities at telecom tower sites, which he said are critical during emergencies and prone to sabotage, theft and other security threats.
The order states that installation of CCTVs in markets and other public places has already improved surveillance, aided investigations and helped prevent criminal incidents in the district.
Commercial establishments without CCTVs must install an adequate number of high-resolution cameras to ensure complete coverage of their premises, including entry and exit points, access lanes and adjoining roads.
The administration said further directions regarding telecom tower infrastructure will be issued separately in line with the SSP’s recommendation to bring them at par with commercial establishments for CCTV coverage.
Authorities have stressed that the move aims to enhance public safety and assist law enforcement agencies in investigation and prevention of thefts, drug peddling, vandalism and suspicious movements across Baramulla district.(GNS)
