From 03-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 04-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic, widening & uneven surface of the road at Qazigund, Udhampur as well as the stretch between Ramban and Kishtwar Pather. In addition to the breakdown of a vehicle at Maitra.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a high spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of road from TCU Srinagar/Jammu Control Room. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads on J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and web page.
Traffic remained on regulated movement at Qazigund, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single-lane about 30-40 minutes.
In view of the extensive damage to NH-44 at Qazigund, Udhampur, forcing slow movement of vehicles over rough & bumpy surface of single carriageway, causing congestion, the movement of local commuters within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall not be allowed after the cut-off timings of 1800 hrs from Nagrota, Jammu after the window period given post opening of traffic. Commuters are advised to undertake journeys only after confirming road status.
Local commuters travelling in private vehicles towards Srinagar are advised to use the old road via Jawahar Tunnel in order to avoid congestion at Qazigund.
Similarly, commuters travelling to Banihal, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and adjoining areas are advised to use the old road via Patnitop while travelling from Jammu in order to avoid congestion at Qazigund.
Passenger/LMV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal and the ongoing NHW near Kishtwar may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Goods carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh/perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time. Such vehicles shall be allowed to ply on alternate days only.
Truck operators carrying essential commodities are advised to ensure that they are loaded to the prescribed capacity and carry essential items as per the day of their movement. No fresh/empty trucks shall be permitted from Srinagar towards Jammu on the day of convoy movement.
HMV operators/drivers are requested to drive slow, maintain safe distance and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 04-08-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMV Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) via Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. However, HMV/Load carriers shall be allowed on alternate days. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing traffic from either side.
HMV/Load Carriers
Subject to fair weather, better road conditions and clearance of the prevailing traffic situation on NH-44, HMV shall be allowed to ply from Qazigund towards Jammu. No HMV shall be allowed to move after 1800 hrs till clearance from TCU Ramban before releasing HMV.
Moreover, in view of Amarnath Yatra 2026, to provide hassle-free movement of trucks carrying fresh/perishable stock to Kashmir, all empty tankers of Petrol, Diesel, LPO etc. and trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders, as well as empty vehicles of FCI that use Mughal Road while returning to Jammu, further any other vehicles up to 40 tonnes carrying perishable commodities shall also use the Mughal Road on the days when the up convoy from Jammu is diverted on NH-44, as per advisory issued by concerned authorities.
Army Convoy Movement
Army and other security forces are advised to plan their movement after Army convoy movements, keeping in view the daily traffic advisory. It is requested that no convoy should block the movement of commuters on NH-44, which will be released from Nagrota, Jammu at 8 AM & dispatched at 11:00 AM after passage of the convoy from Jammu/Kashmir side respectively.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per order issued by the BRO Chief Engineer and the BRO Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting clearance from the road maintenance agency (NHAI), LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Kishtwar towards Sinthan between 0600 hrs and 1000 hrs, and from Sinthan towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicles will be allowed after the cut-off timings.
SSG ROAD
As per order issued by the concerned authorities, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.
Vehicles shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies, up to 1900 hrs.
Traffic will be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 0700 hrs and 1700 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use adequate fuel and ensure their vehicles are in proper condition.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency, LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian from 0600 hrs to 1200 hrs and from Shopian towards Chandimarh between 1200 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed timings.
Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall remain in touch with concerned authorities regarding the road conditions.
