Heavy rain, flash flood threat in J&K

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast widespread rainfall and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the Jammu division.

According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at most places from August 9 to 11, with heavy to very heavy rainfall possible in a few districts of the Jammu division.

Brief but intense heavy showers may also occur at a few places in the Kashmir division, with peak weather activity expected on August 11.

The weather department has further forecast the possibility of light rain and thundershowers at many places from August 12 to 16, with brief intense showers at a few locations.

From August 17 to 19, fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, along with brief intense heavy showers at some locations.
Advisory

The Meteorological Centre has warned of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers at a few places during August 9–11, with heavy to very heavy rainfall possible in one or two districts on the night of August 11.

It cautioned that torrential rain and intense showers could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, besides causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert during periods of intense rainfall.
