JK National Highway Traffic Updates for 17th August 2026
From 15-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 16-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow movement was observed on NH-44 due to single lane, unloading & uneven surface of the road at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Maitra and Kishtwar Pather. In addition to this, the breakdown of 02 vehicles at Nashri and Ramban was also reported.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecasted by the IMD with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of road from TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic managed on regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single lane about 30–40 minutes.
Passengers/LMT operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Goods carrier (HMV/L/MV) operators carrying fresh perishable/live stock are advised to load their vehicle as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV Operators/Owners are requested to desist from overloading and carrying sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carriage sufficiently before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halage between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone area.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 17-08-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs Passenger/HGVs/Private Cars/HMVs (Good carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, over-taking rules and driving with caution. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SFs Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per order issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/C/2026-276/58-80 dated 09-07-2026 and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/KNG/2025-284/87-88 dated 09-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road condition, after getting signal from Road Maintenance Agencies (NHAI), LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Sinthan-Kishtwar/Anantnag road and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from P.P. Panjoo towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Dachhan towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to ply from Dachhan towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to move after the cut-off timing.
TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG ROAD
As per order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir vide No. DivCom/Dev/100/2026/432-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only, after receiving green signal from road maintenance agencies, up to 1500 hrs.
However, LMVs shall be allowed to move from Srinagar towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry warm clothing and avoid taking more grip on the slippery road.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG convoy moving on the SSG road shall ply in such a manner that traffic is not obstructed.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GRE), vehicle movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyre only) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Gujral from Rajouri (Banihal) towards Shopian and from Shopian towards Poonch between 0600 hrs and 1500 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the cut-off timing.
No movement shall be allowed from Poonch towards Shopian from 0600 hrs to 1500 hrs, as per the order issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DMS/ADM/PS/28-271/21-31 dated 03-07-2026.
TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
