The notification states there will be no reservation for these appointments, and the number of posts may increase or decrease as per requirement. Selected candidates may be posted at Regional Directorate Lucknow, Regional Directorate Kolkata, Regional Directorate Chandigarh, or CPCB Head Office, Delhi, at the Board’s discretion.
Eligibility Criteria :
Essential qualification and required experience vary by post, as detailed below. Qualification, experience and age will be reckoned as on the last date for submission of application (07.09.2026), and no updating of qualification/experience is permitted after that date.
Scientist-D (01 Post)
Qualification: First class Master’s in Environmental Science/Natural Science, OR First Class Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology (Environmental/Chemical/Civil/Energy and Environment/Biotechnology); AND cumulative impact factor of published papers not less than 10 (only UGC CARE list/Scopus-indexed journals considered), OR minimum 5 books/edited book chapters published by National/International publishers with an established peer-review system and ISBN, OR minimum 5 technical reports published by CPCB/State Pollution Control Board (SPCB).
Experience: 7 years of relevant practical experience from reputed organizations in prevention, control & abatement of river pollution, industrial pollution, sewage management and environmental management; familiarity with environmental norms and data analytics required.
Scientist-C (08 Posts)
Qualification: Same Master’s/Bachelor’s requirement as Scientist-D; AND cumulative impact factor not less than 7, OR minimum 3 books/edited book chapters (ISBN, peer-reviewed), OR minimum 3 technical reports published by CPCB/SPCB.
Experience: 5 years of relevant practical experience in the same field as above.
Scientist-B (12 Posts)
Qualification: Same Master’s/Bachelor’s requirement as above; AND a valid GATE score with 90% or above percentile, OR NET-JRF qualified.
Experience: 3 years of relevant experience in the same field; candidates with relevant research/teaching experience will also be considered.
Assistant Manager (Finance) (03 Posts)
Qualification: First class Master’s Degree in Commerce (Finance & Accounting/Taxation), OR Chartered Accountant, OR MBA (Finance & Accounting).
Experience: 8 years’ post-qualification experience, including usage of computers and office software (MS Word, Excel etc.) with advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, minimum 2 years of tax experience, accounting entries in Tally & Quick Books, preparation of vouchers, filing online returns for TDS, GST, PF, ESI, STPI etc., and payroll preparation and management.
Administrative Assistant (01 Post)
Qualification: First Class Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent, with working knowledge of computers. Desirable: First Class Post-Graduation degree.
Experience: Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience of administration work, preferably in Government/PSU/Autonomous bodies, in the 4200/- grade pay or its equivalent; must pass a skill test based on noting and drafting.
Scientific Assistant (SA) (13 Posts)
Qualification: First class Master’s in Environmental Science/Natural Science, OR First Class Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology (Environmental/Chemical/Civil/Energy and Environment/Biotechnology); AND a valid GATE score with 90% or above percentile, OR NET-JRF qualified.
Taxonomist (01 Post)
Qualification: First Class M.Sc. Desirable: Master’s Degree in Botany or Zoology with minimum 75% marks or equivalent; AND a valid GATE score with 90% or above percentile/NET-JRF qualified; AND cumulative impact factor of published papers not less than 7 (UGC CARE list/Scopus-indexed journals only), OR at least 1 book/edited book chapter published (ISBN, peer-reviewed), OR at least 1 technical report published by CPCB/SPCB.
Data Entry Operator (04 Posts)
Qualification: First class Bachelor’s Degree in Science/BCA. Must pass a skill test in MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), with English typing speed of 45 wpm and Hindi typing speed of 35 wpm, on computer.
Field Assistant (08 Posts)
Qualification: Passed 10+2 in Science with minimum 55% marks. Knowledge of water/wastewater sampling and sample preservation required.
General Notes on Qualification
Candidates must have passed the qualifying degree examination and been awarded the M.Sc./Bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology (full-time regular courses only) from recognized Indian Universities/Institutes.
Period spent acquiring a Ph.D. degree will not be considered as experience.
Candidates with a Bachelor’s in engineering/technology or an integrated Master’s degree in engineering/technology will be considered for posts marked for engineering/technology streams; otherwise, candidates will be considered for posts marked for science streams.
Candidates who have received a degree or a valid provisional certificate as on the closing date of application may apply. Candidates awaiting final semester results, or final-year appearing students, are not eligible.

As per the official FAQs, there is no age relaxation for in-service candidates, Ex-servicemen, or weaker sections/reserved categories for this recruitment.
Salary
All posts carry consolidated monthly emoluments, as notified:

These engagements are purely contractual, co-terminus with the SER-Phase-III project, and carry no right to regularization or absorption into regular CPCB vacancies.
Application Fee :
There is no application fee for applying to any of the 51 posts under this CPCB Recruitment 2026 notification, for candidates of any category.
Selection Process
Recruitment will be made through interview, subject to document verification. Relevant documents, mark-sheets and experience certificates will be verified, and screening will be carried out. In case a large number of candidates apply for a position, the Selection/Screening Committee has discretion to shortlist candidates for interview based on a written exam, percentage of marks, desirable qualification/relevant experience, higher qualification, or any other criteria it deems fit. Only candidates qualifying the document verification and screening criteria will be called for interview by a Selection Committee. Candidates must bring original mark sheets, degrees, testimonials, date-of-birth certificates, experience certificates, self-attested photocopies of each document, Aadhaar card (or other Govt.-approved photo ID), and one passport-size photo for document verification. No TA/DA or accommodation will be provided for attending the interview, which will be held in Delhi.
How to Apply for CPCB Recruitment 2026
Applications must be submitted online only, in two steps, through the CPCB website:
Step 1 – Registration: Visit www.cpcb.gov.in, go to the “ Jobs” section, and register with a valid E-mail ID and active mobile number (both must be preserved till the end of the recruitment process). Enter the Name exactly as per the degree certificate (this field cannot be edited after registration), select the Post and Essential Qualification from the dropdown, and enter Date of Birth. Note down the generated Registration Number.
Step 2 – Application Submission: Log in using the Registration Number and Date of Birth (which also serves as the password). Fill in post selection, qualification and experience details as per the advertisement; upload JPEG images of photo and signature, and the Experience Certificate. Recheck all entries before final submission.
After submission, confirm the application status shows “submitted” – incomplete applications will not be considered, and CPCB will not be responsible for incomplete applications.
Applicants required to upload only scanned copies of: (i) Experience Certificate(s), (ii) copy of PhD discipline (if applicable), and (iii) the page showing the applicant’s name as author/co-author of any published Paper/Book/Journal; the same must also be produced at the time of interview.
Candidates applying for more than one post must apply separately for each post.
Applications, once submitted, cannot be altered, resubmitted, or deleted under any circumstances – candidates are advised to keep all data ready before starting the online form.

There is no reservation for these appointments, and the number of posts is liable to increase or decrease as per requirement.
These are purely temporary, contract engagements, co-terminus with the SER-Phase-III project; services will terminate automatically on expiry of the project or the appointment period, whichever is earlier, with no right to regularization/absorption.
Applicants currently serving in Govt./Semi-Govt./PSU/Autonomous Organizations must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer and produce it at the time of document verification; failure to do so means the candidature will not be considered.
Candidates holding degrees/diplomas/certificates from institutions declared fake or de-recognized by UGC/AICTE/PCI are not eligible.
Canvassing in any form will disqualify a candidate.
CPCB reserves the right to withdraw the advertisement in part or whole, fill or not fill posts, or increase/decrease the number of posts, without assigning any reason.
Requests to change registered mailing address, e-mail address, or mobile number during the recruitment process will not be entertained.
Selected candidates must produce a Medical Certificate from an authorized Government Medical Officer at the time of joining.

Persons previously dismissed by the Union/State Government, a Local Authority, or a Government Corporation/PSU are ineligible for appointment.
