TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 20-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 21-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single lane, undulations & uneven surface of the road at Daval, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Morang and Kishtwar Pather, in addition to the breakdown of 02 vehicles at Digdo and Ramsou.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of road from TCU Srinagar/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic is being managed on a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single lane for about 30–40 Mtrs.
Advisory for Passengers/LWV Operators
Passengers/LWV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of widening works being undertaken by NHAI on Digdol-Khooni Nallah axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of traffic in Digdol hrs to Banihal may encounter restricted or disrupted during daytime, particularly in between 0700 hrs to 1500 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through TCU. As per the movement of tankers shall be allowed through Banihal only after 1600 hrs upto 0300 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.
Goods carrier (HMW/LWV) Operators carrying fresh perishable stock are advised to load their vehicle as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMWs Operators/Owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary haltage between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 22-08-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Fair weather and good road conditions.
LMVs/Passenger/HMVs/Private Cars/HMVs (Goods carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) via from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
Note: They are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking from wrong lane driving will cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/CAPF Convoy Movement
Fair weather and good road condition.
Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), with Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per order issued by the SMC/Chief Engineer NH-244, vide No. SDWK/2026-377578-38 dated 09-07-2026 and the order concerning fair weather and good road conditions, traffic shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Kishtwar towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing.
TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG ROAD
As per order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir, vide No. DivComDev/100/2026/4382-4410 dated 14-06-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Sonamarg and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only after receiving green signal from the road maintenance agencies up to 1300 hrs. However, HMV’s shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to manage the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG Road traffic should be managed in such a manner that traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after ensuring clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREH), vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh towards Shopian and from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
As per the order issued by the Directorate Mechanical, Shopian, vide No. DMSP/PS-27/2021-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timing.
