TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 22-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 23-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane undertaking, a university traffic and road work at Dhalwas, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Mehar and Kishtwar Panthar, in addition to the breakdown of vehicles between Nashri and Ramban.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of roads from TCU Srinagar/Kashmir/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads through J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic Situation
Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic for about 30–40 metres.

Passenger LMVs are advised to prefer travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdol–Khooni Nalla axis on Jammu–Srinagar NHW, movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs. Movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted in tunnel areas.
Such movement of oil tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Goods carrier (HMV/LV) operators carrying fresh/perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as apprehensions of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV owners/operators are requested to desist from overloading and carrying surplus fuel during their journey on Jammu–Srinagar NHW. They are further requested to check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 24-08-2026
Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMV Passenger/HMV/Private Cars (Good Carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, avoiding wrong-side driving which may cause congestion.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Force vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per the orders issued by the SDM Chenab Valley vide No. SDM/CV/26-27/6-86 dated 09-07-2026 and the SDM Kishtwar vide No. SDM/KN/2026-2026/8478-83 dated 09-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting green signal from the road maintenance agencies (R&B/CPL), LMV Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on Kishtwar–Sinthan road.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from KP Paristan towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0500 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG ROAD
As per order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/20026/432-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri Road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Kargil towards Sonamarg only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies up to 1300 hrs.
However, HMV shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Sonamarg between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry sufficient fuel and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition to avoid being stranded on the road.
SSG convoy/road convoys shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres only shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandanwari towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timing. As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DMS/ADM/PS/26-27/321-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timing.
