TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 31-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 01-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to a single lane, including a narrow surface of the road at Dawel, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwar Pathar. In addition to this, a vehicle broke down at Marog.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar/Jammu/Ramban. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dawel, Udhampur on NH-44 due to a single lane for about 30–40 minutes.
Passenger/LNV operators are advised to prefer journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdole-Khooni Nallah axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil & gas tankers shall remain restricted on this section during daytime, between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of oil tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0600 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.
Goods carrier (HMV/LGV) operators carrying fresh perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters, time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journeys on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking any journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halting between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 02-09-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, passenger/HMV/private cars/HMVs (Goods carriers) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, as wrong-lane driving will cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SSB Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
Srinagar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per order issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/C/2026-27/578-86 dated 02-07-2026 and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/KNG/2026-27/804-818 dated 08-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting a green signal from the road maintenance agencies (NHIDCL), LMV passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from PP Parna towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timing.
TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG ROAD
As per order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir vide No. D/Coom/Dev/2026/235-432 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Kargil towards Sonamarg (only after receiving green signal from the road maintenance agencies) up to 1300 hrs.
However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SF convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (NH-144A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREW), vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres only) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, vide No. DM/SPN/2026/2721-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
