Srinagar, September 5: The higher reaches of Kashmir received the first snowfall of the season on Saturday, while several plain areas experienced brief spells of rain, with hailstorms and gusty winds reported at some places.
The fresh snowfall marks the beginning of the winter weather activity in the higher mountainous areas of the Kashmir Valley, while the plains witnessed a noticeable change in weather conditions during the day.
First Snowfall Recorded in Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Gumri
According to officials, the mountainous areas of Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Gumri witnessed the first snowfall of the season on Saturday.
The snowfall was reported from the higher reaches as weather conditions changed across the Kashmir Valley. The fresh snow added to the seasonal weather activity in the upper mountainous areas.
Rainfall Reported in Srinagar and Other Areas
Parts of Srinagar city and adjoining districts received rainfall during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The brief spells of rain brought down daytime temperatures by a couple of notches, providing relief from the relatively warmer conditions experienced earlier.
Along with rainfall, some areas also reported hailstorms and gusty winds, officials said.

Residents experienced rain, hail and gusty winds as the weather system affected the plains, while snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast the possibility of brief showers in Kashmir on Sunday.
However, the weather is expected to remain generally dry over the next few days, according to the forecast.
The possibility of brief showers means isolated areas may continue to experience short spells of rain, but no prolonged wet spell is expected in the coming days.
