1. National Teachers’ Day 2026 Celebrated Across India

Teachers’ Day is being observed across India on 5 September 2026 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s first Vice President and second President.

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 48 school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The awards recognise teachers for their exceptional contribution to school education and student development.

In addition, 21 teachers/faculty members from higher education institutions and polytechnics are being honoured under the National Awards to Teachers 2026.

2. India’s EOS-05 Satellite Successfully Launched by ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched EOS-05 aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket from Sriharikota on 4 September 2026.

ISRO confirmed that the mission successfully placed EOS-05 into its intended orbit. The launch took place at 2:55 AM IST.

3. India Releases 10-Year Defence Diplomacy Framework ‘RAKSHA’

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released the ‘RAKSHA’ defence diplomacy document in New Delhi.

The framework presents India’s strategic roadmap for global defence partnerships over the next 10 years. It focuses on strategic partnerships, capacity building, indigenous defence exports and maritime security.

4. India–Belgium Strengthen Defence Cooperation

India and Belgium have agreed to expand their defence partnership through defence cooperation dialogue, high-level visits, training and capacity building.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with Belgium’s Defence Minister and Foreign Trade Minister Theo Francken in New Delhi. Both sides also discussed maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

5. India Continues Diplomatic Efforts for Russia–Ukraine Peace

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India is maintaining communication with both Russia and Ukraine and working towards finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict.

India has continued to emphasise dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward for resolving the conflict.

6. Temporary Air Truce Discussed Amid Russia–Ukraine Peace Efforts

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a temporary air truce amid a diplomatic initiative involving US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The development comes as international efforts continue to revive peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

7. Lahore Named SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital

Lahore, Pakistan, has been named the Tourism and Cultural Capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) for 2026–27.

The announcement was made during the 26th SCO Council of Heads of State meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

8. ICICI Bank Increases Stake in ICICI Prudential Life

ICICI Bank acquired an additional 2% stake in ICICI Prudential Life Insurance for approximately ₹1,470 crore.

Following the transaction, ICICI Bank’s holding increased from around 50.84% to 52.8%.

9. NIELIT and Intel India Launch Agentic AI Skilling Initiative

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and Intel India have launched initiatives focused on developing skills in Agentic Artificial Intelligence.

The programme aims to prepare India’s workforce for emerging AI technologies and strengthen industry-oriented digital skills.
