Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 6th Sep 2026 : NH-44, NH-244, SSG Road & Mughal Road Traffic Plan
TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 04-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 05-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane, undulating and uneven surface of the road at Dewal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Mager and Kishtwar Pather. In addition, the breakdown of vehicles between Ramban and Banihal was also causing traffic disruption.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likelihood of rain over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads through the J&K Traffic Police Twitter/X handle and Facebook page.
Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur, on NH-44, due to a single-lane stretch of approximately 50–40 metres.
Passenger/LWV operators are advised to prefer journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of the widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdole–Khooni Nallah axis of Jammu–Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound HMVs and oil tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs.
The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted. As such, the movement of oil tankers shall not be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.

Goods carriers (HMV/MV) operators carrying fresh/perishable stock are advised to use their vehicles as per the advisory issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, due to the apprehension of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV/MV operators and owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners must properly check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone-prone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 06-09-2026
Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs/passenger vehicles/private cars/HMVs (goods carriers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving may cause congestion.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding road conditions.
Army/SF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed to ply on both sides of the Jammu–Srinagar NHW, from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
They shall move only after confirming the status of the road.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per orders issued by the SDM Chatroo and SDM Kokernag, subject to fair weather and good road conditions and after receiving clearance from road maintenance agencies (NHIDCL), light passenger/private cars and other permitted vehicles shall be allowed to ply from Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from P.P. Parana towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
SSG ROAD
As per orders issued by DVCOM Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides of the Srinagar–Sonamarg road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar, only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies, up to the prescribed time.
However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain better grip on slippery roads. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
SF convoy movement on the SSG Road shall be planned in such a manner that civilian traffic is not disrupted.
Mughal Road (NH-701)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREW), vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only shall be allowed from both sides, i.e. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Chandimarh towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
