Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 9th Sep 2026 : NH-44, NH-244, SSG Road & Mughal Road Traffic Plan
TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 07-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 08-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane stretches, undulating surfaces of the road at Qazigund and Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwar Pather. In addition, four vehicles broke down between Ramban and Ramsoo.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads on the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur on NH-44, due to a single-lane stretch of about 30–40 metres.
Passenger/LWV Operators
Passenger/LWV operators are advised to prefer journeys on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Movement of Tankers
In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Digdo–Khooni Nalla axis on Jammu–Srinagar NHW, the movement of tankers bound for Kashmir should remain restricted during daytime, between 0700 hrs and 1500 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels.
The movement of up tankers shall be allowed beyond Channani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and for their safety.

Goods carrier (HMV/LWV) operators carrying fresh perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, along with ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV Operators/Owners
HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW. They are further requested to carefully check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 08-09-2026
Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs (Goods Carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving will cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Force vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall move only after confirming the status of the NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per orders issued by the concerned authorities and subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting the general signal from the road maintenance agencies (NHIDCL), LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice-versa on Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road.
Traffic restrictions will apply during specified hours, and TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG Road
As per the order issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Sonamarg and vice-versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Srinagar towards Kargil and from Munawar towards Srinagar only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agency, up to the prescribed time. HMV movement shall be regulated accordingly.
Drivers are advised to carry anti-skid chains and exercise caution on slippery roads. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timing.
Mughal Road (NH-144A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (R&B), vehicular movement shall be allowed on the Mughal Road.
HMVs shall be allowed to ply only during the prescribed timings, while traffic movement shall remain regulated according to road conditions and directions issued by the authorities.
