Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 12th Sep 2026 : NH-44, NH-244, SSG Road & Mughal Road Traffic Plan
TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 10-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 11-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane conditions at various locations and road damage. Slow movement was also observed at Dewal, Udhampur, as well as at the single-lane stretch between Mavog and Kishtwar. In addition, 02 vehicles broke down at Ramban and Nachlana, while nomadic herds were moving on the highway.
Owing to the ongoing movement of Army convoys, traffic on the Srinagar-bound carriageway from Nud to Panthal was required to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a possibility of heavy rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the Traffic Control Units of Jammu/Srinagar/Ramban. Commuters are also advised to check the status of the NH-44 Traffic Police page.
Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur on NH-44, due to a single lane of about 30–40 metres.
Passengers are advised to prefer journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Dialot, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime, between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs. The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. Such tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0600 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.

Goods carrier operators carrying fresh perishable/essential stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time. They should also check the availability of parking space at Srinagar and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV/LGV operators are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking a journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary travel between Ramban and Banihal, especially near construction zones.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 12-09-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, Passenger/HPVs, Private Cars/HMVs (Goods Carriers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving may cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding regulation of traffic movement.
Army/Govt. Convoy Movement
Army/Government convoy movement shall be regulated as per the prevailing traffic situation and road conditions.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting green signal from Road Maintenance Agency/NHIDCL, LMVs, private cars and light goods vehicles shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Daksum towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Anantnag towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to ply in case of heavy snowfall/road closure or any other adverse condition. Traffic Control Units shall monitor the situation and regulate traffic accordingly.
SSG ROAD
As per the order issued by the DivCOM Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Sonamarg and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil from 0700 hrs to 1300 hrs, whereas vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs.
No vehicles are advised to carry out any roadside repairs or unnecessary stoppages on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
Srinagar traffic authorities will regulate movement on the SSG road until the point where movement is considered safe and conditions permit.
Mughal Road (NH-144A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency, HMVs (Passenger/Goods) shall be allowed to ply from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to ply from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch during the prescribed hours.
As per the order issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, and Divisional Magistrate/Poonch, Traffic Police Jammu and Traffic Police Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
