JMC to Build 36-Shop Complex for Traders Displaced by Satwari Flyover

The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has laid the foundation stone for a new shopping complex at Bhagwati Nagar to rehabilitate shopkeepers displaced from Satwari Chowk and Nai Basti following the construction of the Satwari flyover.

The foundation stone was laid by Jammu West MLA Arvind Gupta, Bahu MLA Vikram Randhawa and Jammu South MLA Narinder Singh in the presence of JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav and Jammu Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas.

The complex will comprise 36 shops, each measuring 8 feet by 10 feet. Parking space will be provided in front of the shops, along with a toilet facility for shopkeepers and the public.

The affected traders had been operating from shops allotted by the JMC and paying rent to the Corporation before the premises were removed to facilitate the flyover project.

According to the JMC, the Bhagwati Nagar complex is intended to provide the displaced shopkeepers with permanent and organised commercial space to resume their businesses.

Traffic cop dies after being hit by truck

Officials said the land for the rehabilitation project had been handed over to the JMC by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, enabling the Corporation to begin construction.

The project is part of the Corporation’s rehabilitation measures for commercial establishments affected by infrastructure development works in Jammu.
