Domestic LPG consumers across the country will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to continue booking subsidised cylinder refills from October 1, 2026, the government said in a release on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, the move is aimed at ensuring that subsidised cooking gas reaches genuine domestic households and is not diverted for commercial or industrial use. It will also help weed out duplicate and ineligible connections and make the subsidy delivery mechanism more transparent, the release added.

As per the ministry, as of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 percent of the total, have completed the authentication process and will not need to take any further action. Their refill bookings will continue without interruption.
For consumers who have not completed BAA, subsidised refill bookings will only be processed after authentication.
