Dengue Cases Rise in Doda, 52 Patients Admitted To GMC Hospital

A rise in dengue cases in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district has prompted the local administration to intensify mosquito-control measures, with 52 patients currently admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, officials said on Monday.

The Doda and Bhaderwah Municipal Committees have stepped up anti-larval spraying, fogging and public awareness activities as part of a special drive to contain the spread of the disease.

Civic teams have carried out door-to-door inspections over the past three days in several areas to locate and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, officials said.

Ravi Saini, Executive Officer of the Doda and Bhaderwah Municipal Committees, said six teams had been deployed for the campaign, with three teams operating in each municipality.

The teams are conducting fogging and anti-larval spraying in vulnerable areas and at locations reporting higher numbers of dengue cases.

Saini said nearly 239 mosquito breeding sites had been identified and destroyed by Monday morning during inspections of residential, religious and commercial premises.

He said the anti-dengue operation would continue until the situation was brought under control.

Authorities have also warned residents and commercial establishments where mosquito breeding sites are repeatedly detected that penalties could be imposed if such sites are found again.

Health authorities have issued a preventive advisory in view of the increase in dengue infections, urging residents to take precautions against mosquito breeding and seek medical care when required.

Senior citizens and people with diabetes, hypertension, respiratory illnesses and other comorbidities have been advised to remain particularly vigilant and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms or experience a deterioration in their condition.
