The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued a detailed traffic advisory for October 1, 2026, covering the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, SSG Road and Mughal Road.
According to the advisory, traffic movement on several stretches may be affected due to road works, single-lane traffic, movement of nomadic herds, shooting stones/landslides and other road-related conditions. Commuters have been advised to check the latest road status before starting their journey.
Traffic Situation on Jammu-Srinagar NH-44
From September 29, 2026, 4:00 PM to September 30, 2026, 4:00 PM, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to the single-lane and uneven road surface at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
Traffic was also affected by the breakdown of three vehicles between Ramban and Banihal and the movement of around six nomadic herds crossing the Banihal–Nachlana stretch.
Due to the continued movement of nomadic herds, traffic on the single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishtwari Pather is likely to remain slow. Commuters have been asked to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
Traffic at Dawal, Udhampur, on NH-44 is being managed in a regulated manner due to a single-lane stretch of around 30–40 metres.
Advisory for Passengers and LMV Operators
Passengers and light motor vehicle operators have been advised to prefer daytime travel on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway.

Night travel should be avoided because of the possibility of shooting stones and landslides, movement of nomadic herds from valleys and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.
These conditions may cause delays and inconvenience to commuters.
Restrictions on Kashmir-Bound Oil and Gas Tankers
In view of widening work being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Digdol-Khooni Nalla axis of NH-44, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers will remain restricted during daytime.
The advisory states that movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material through tunnels will be restricted between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
Accordingly, the movement of oil tankers will be permitted beyond Chenani only after 5:00 PM up to 5:00 AM.
Tanker operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Advisory for Goods Carrier and HMV Operators
Goods carriers transporting fresh, perishable or live-stock material have been advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.
There is an apprehension of shooting stones and landslides, along with ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which could cause inconvenience to commuters.
Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operators and owners have also been advised to:
Avoid overloading their vehicles.
Carry sufficient fuel for the journey.
Double-check the fitness of their vehicles before travelling.
Plan their journey according to the prevailing road conditions.
Commuters have further been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide and shooting-stone-prone areas.
Traffic Plan for October 1, 2026 Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger vehicles, private cars and HMV/good carriers will be allowed to move from both sides of NH-44.
Traffic will operate from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking or wrong-side driving, as these practices can result in congestion.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the prevailing road conditions.
Army and Security Forces Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles will be permitted to move from both sides on NH-44, from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Security Forces convoys will move after confirming the status of NH-44 from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 Traffic Advisory
As per orders issued by the SDM Chatroo and SDM Kokernag, traffic movement on NH-244 will remain subject to fair weather and good road conditions and clearance from road maintenance agencies (NHDCL).
LMVs, passenger vehicles and private cars will be allowed to ply from both sides between Kishtwar and Srinagar via Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag.
Vehicles will be allowed to move from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, while traffic from Daksum towards Kishtwar will be permitted between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
No vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the timings.
SSG Road Traffic Advisory
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs will be allowed to ply on both sides of the SSG Road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa, after receiving clearance from the road maintenance agencies.
Vehicles will be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar up to 1:00 PM.
However, vehicles will be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM after receiving the required clearance.
No vehicle will be allowed after 5:00 PM.
Motorists have been advised to carry essential items and sufficient fuel to avoid inconvenience on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Kargil route.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform concerned parties about the cut-off timings.
Security Forces convoys moving on the SSG Road have been advised to plan their movement in a manner that does not disturb civilian traffic.
Mughal Road Traffic Advisory
On Mughal Road (NH-701A), subject to fair weather and good road conditions and clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREFA), vehicle movement will be allowed from both sides.
LMVs followed by HMVs, with a maximum of 10 vehicles at a time, will be permitted.
Traffic will move from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
Vehicles will be allowed to move from Chandimarh (Buffliaz) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
No vehicle will be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
Traffic authorities have stated that TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
Important Advice for Commuters
Traffic Police has advised people to undertake journeys only after confirming the latest road status from the concerned Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
Commuters should remain particularly cautious while travelling through stretches affected by construction work, landslides, shooting stones, single-lane movement and adverse weather conditions.
Drivers are also advised to maintain lane discipline, avoid unnecessary stoppages and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and adequately fuelled before starting the journey.
