From 03-10-2026, 1800 hrs to 04-10-2026, 1800 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic, including at certain sections of the road in Ramban. Udhampur was also affected due to high traffic volume and Kashmir-bound traffic. In addition, the breakdown of 04 vehicles between Ramban and Banihal and the movement of 07 nomadic herds (Goats/Bakri-Nachari) also affected traffic movement.

Owing to ongoing improvement and concrete road work, the single-lane stretch from Mager to Khooni Nallah is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.

Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44, due to single-lane traffic for about 30–40 minutes.

Passenger Light Motor Vehicle Operators

Passenger LMV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomads from valleys, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdol-Khooni Nallah axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Ramban-bound and Kashmir-bound oil & gas tankers shall remain restricted on the single driving daytime in between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of oil tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0600 hrs.

Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid inconvenience and ensure their safety.

Goods Carrier / HMV Operators

Goods carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters, so that there is no apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV Operators/Owners

HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners are further requested to double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journeys on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 05-10-2026

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger/private cars and HMVs (good carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, avoid unnecessary halts and avoid overtaking, which may cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/SF’s Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.

Kishwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244

As per the order issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/C/2026-27/578-83 dated 09-07-2026, and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/2025-26/487-88 dated 09-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after easing green signal from Road Maintenance Agencies (NHDCL), LMVs/passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Pampore towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.

SSG ROAD

As per the order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/100/2026/4392-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minimarg towards Srinagar, only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agency up to 1500 hrs.

However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Minimarg towards Srinagar between 1700 hrs and 1715 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will coordinate about the cut-off timings.

SFs convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (R&B), vehicles meeting the prescribed criteria shall be allowed to ply from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to ply from Chandimarg (Buffliaz) towards Shopian and from Herapora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the cut-off timings. As per the order issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, vide No. DM/SDM/2026-27/721-31 dated 06-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
