J&K Traffic Police Issues Fresh Travel Advisory
The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Srinagar, has issued a traffic advisory for commuters, passengers, transport operators and other road users travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Mughal Road, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road and other important routes in Jammu and Kashmir.
The advisory highlights traffic restrictions due to single-lane road stretches, road maintenance work, shooting-stone and landslide risks, ongoing construction activities and scheduled movement of security forces and heavy vehicles.
Travellers have been advised to check the latest road status with the Traffic Police before starting their journey and follow the instructions issued by the concerned authorities.
Traffic Update on NH-44: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway
From 6:00 PM on 9 October 2026 to 6:00 PM on 10 October 2026, very slow traffic movement was reported on NH-44 due to single-lane operation and uneven road surfaces at Dhaman and Udhampur, along with single-lane stretches between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
The breakdown of three vehicles between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, along with the movement of nomadic herds, further affected traffic flow. Commuters were advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
Traffic was being managed in a regulated manner at Dhaman and Udhampur on NH-44, with an estimated delay of around 30–40 minutes due to single-lane traffic movement.
Advisory for Passenger Vehicles and LMVs
Passenger vehicles and light motor vehicles (LMVs) have been advised to plan their journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during daylight hours.

Restrictions on Upward-Bound Oil Tankers
Due to ongoing widening work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Digdo–Khooni Nalla stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil tankers and gas tankers will remain restricted during daytime.
The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. Accordingly, upward-bound tankers will be permitted beyond Chenani only after 5:00 PM and up to 5:00 AM, as specified in the advisory.
Tankers and gas tanker operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Advisory for Goods Carriers and HMVs
Goods carriers, including heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) and light motor vehicles carrying fresh and perishable goods, have been advised to load their vehicles according to the instructions issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time.
The advisory refers to the risk of shooting stones, landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal. Drivers should exercise caution and follow the prescribed traffic regulations.
Advisory for HMVs and Long-Distance Drivers
