Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)

Traffic movement remained slow due to single-lane stretches between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, as well as the breakdown of vehicles between Marog and Ramban. The movement of nomadic herds crossing the Banihal–Nachlana stretch also contributed to congestion.

Due to the ongoing movement of nomadic herds, traffic on the single-lane stretch from Hingni to Kishtwari Pather is likely to slow down further. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary overtaking.

Traffic was also managed in a regulated manner at Dwal, Udhampur, on NH-44 due to single-lane restrictions, resulting in a delay of approximately 30–40 minutes.

Advisory for Passenger Vehicles and LMVs

Passenger vehicles and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) are advised to plan their journeys during daylight hours. Night travel should be avoided because of the possibility of shooting stones and landslides, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

Commuters should remain alert to changing road conditions and follow the instructions issued by traffic authorities.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is undertaking road-widening work on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, particularly in the Digdol–Khooni Nallah area.

The movement of dumpers carrying construction material is restricted on this stretch during daytime hours, from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM, because of the movement of tippers loaded with construction material through tunnels.

The movement of dumpers will be permitted beyond Chenani only after 7:00 PM until 6:00 AM. Tipper operators are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.

Advisory for Goods Carriers

Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) goods carriers transporting fresh perishable goods are advised to load their vehicles according to the advisories issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time.

This precaution is necessary because shooting-stone incidents and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal may cause delays and inconvenience.

Instructions for HMV Operators and Owners

HMV operators and owners are requested to avoid overloading their vehicles while travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.

Vehicle owners must check the fitness of their vehicles before starting their journey and ensure that sufficient fuel is available to complete the trip without unnecessary stoppages.

Avoid Unnecessary Stoppages

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone areas and locations vulnerable to shooting stones.

Drivers should strictly follow traffic regulations and cooperate with the traffic authorities to ensure smooth movement on the highway.

Traffic Plan and Advisory for October 12, 2026

Traffic Police Headquarters has also issued a traffic plan for October 12, 2026, covering NH-44, the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244, the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri Road (SSG Road), and the Mughal Road.

2. Army and Security Forces Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security force vehicles will be allowed to move from both sides on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

The SSG convoy road movement must be planned in a manner that does not disturb civilian traffic.

5. Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicles will be permitted on the Mughal Road after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency, the advisory states.

LMVs will be allowed to ply from both sides, from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. The advisory specifies that vehicles travelling from Chandimarg (Buffliaz) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch will be allowed between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

As per the orders mentioned in the advisory, the Traffic Control Units at Jammu and Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings and road conditions.
