Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 14th Oct 2026,NH-44, SSG Road, & Travel Guidelines
The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Srinagar, has issued an important traffic advisory for commuters, passenger vehicles, transporters, fruit-laden trucks and other road users travelling on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other major routes in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the advisory, traffic movement on NH-44 remained very slow during the period from October 12, 2026, at 6:00 PM to October 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM. The slowdown was attributed to single-lane traffic, roadwork, vehicle breakdowns and the movement of nomadic herds.
The traffic police have urged commuters to check the latest road status before starting their journey, follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary halts, particularly on vulnerable stretches between Ramban and Banihal.
NH-44 Traffic Update: Jammu–Srinagar National Highway
During the reporting period, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to several factors, including single-lane restrictions at Dwal in Udhampur and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather. The breakdown of three vehicles between Marog and Ramban and the movement of approximately 25 nomadic herds crossing the Banihal–Nachlana stretch also affected traffic flow.
The movement of nomadic herds is likely to cause further delays, particularly on narrow sections of the highway. Commuters are advised to exercise patience and follow the instructions issued by traffic personnel.
Traffic on the affected stretch at Dwal, Udhampur, was being regulated in a controlled manner, with delays of approximately 30–40 minutes reported due to single-lane movement.
Important Instructions for Commuters
Avoid unnecessary travel during daylight hours on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway wherever possible, particularly when traffic restrictions or construction work are in place.

Advisory for Heavy Motor Vehicles and Fruit Transporters

Transporters should avoid overloading and ensure that their vehicles are mechanically fit before undertaking the journey on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
Vehicle owners and drivers have also been advised to carry sufficient fuel and verify the condition of their vehicles to prevent breakdowns that could cause additional congestion.
Commuters should avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near areas vulnerable to shooting stones.

Traffic Advisory for Shooting Stones and Construction Work

The stretch between Ramban and Banihal remains sensitive because of construction activity, possible shooting stones and restrictions on the movement of certain vehicles.
Truck operators transporting inflammable materials must comply with the prescribed restrictions and route instructions. The movement of such vehicles through tunnels and other restricted stretches is subject to the directions specified in the advisory.
Commuters are advised not to stop unnecessarily in vulnerable areas and to follow instructions issued by the traffic authorities on the ground.

Important Advice for Travellers
Before travelling on NH-44, Mughal Road, the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag route or the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road, commuters should confirm that the route is open and that their vehicle is permitted to travel during the relevant time window.
Road movement may be restricted or changed at short notice because of bad weather, road damage, shooting stones, landslides, construction activity or security requirements.
