Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 23rd Oct 2026,NH-44, SSG Road, & Travel Guidelines
J&K Traffic Police Advisory :
The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a traffic advisory regarding road conditions, traffic restrictions, convoy movement and travel precautions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road, Mughal Road and other important routes.
Commuters, Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) drivers, Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operators, passenger vehicles and goods carriers have been advised to check the latest road status before starting their journeys. Travellers should exercise caution because of single-lane traffic, shooting stones, landslides, ongoing road construction and restrictions on certain stretches.
Traffic Update on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)
According to the advisory, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 from 21 October 2026 at 4:00 PM to 22 October 2026 at 4:00 PM.
The slow movement was attributed to single-lane traffic, ongoing roadwork and the breakdown of three vehicles between Ramban and Ramsu. The movement of nomadic herds crossing the Banihal-Nachlana stretch also affected traffic.
Due to the movement of nomadic herds, traffic on the stretch from Marog to Kishtwari Pather was moving slowly. Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.

HMV operators should avoid overloading their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel for the journey.
Vehicle owners should check the fitness of their vehicles and carry essential supplies before travelling on NH-44.

2. Army and Security Forces Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and favourable road conditions, Army and security forces vehicles will be permitted to move in both directions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
