Your son is ‘Begairat’, not Kashmiris: Ruhullah to Farooq Abdullah

Budgam, Nov 3: National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday launched a fresh attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir and abandoning key promises, including the regularisation of daily wagers, resolution of the reservation issue and provision of 200 units of free electricity.

Addressing a public rally in Budgam, Ruhullah alleged that Omar Abdullah had failed to stand up for daily wagers, students and young people facing incarceration, despite being repeatedly approached to raise their concerns.

“Daily wagers told you to speak to us, but you said, ‘I am not afraid of anybody’. Students approached you to resolve the reservation issue, but your response was, ‘Don’t threaten me. I am not afraid’,” Ruhullah said.

He accused the Chief Minister of failing to address the concerns of young people and families whose members remain in jails.

“You were supposed to speak about the jailed youth, but instead you went to the Union Home Minister for your own work, to get your advisor’s file approved,” he alleged, questioning the Chief Minister’s priorities.

Ruhullah also accused Omar Abdullah of forgetting the promises made to voters during the Assembly elections, including the commitment to provide 200 units of free electricity.

He said the cap Omar Abdullah had placed before people during the election campaign, seeking their support, seemed to have been forgotten after he took office.

“You have forgotten the cap you placed before the people to seek votes. You have forgotten the promise of 200 units of electricity. Your focus is now on getting vehicles,” he said.

Taking a personal swipe at the Chief Minister, Ruhullah said, “Dr Farooq Abdullah, your son is ‘beqaarat’ (unworthy), not the Kashmiri qaum.”

Accusing Omar Abdullah of betraying the people as well as those who supported him politically, Ruhullah said, “You betrayed the people, you betrayed me, you betrayed everybody. You used me.”

Recalling his role during the election campaign, Ruhullah said he had urged National Conference legislators to recognise the importance of the youth who respected and supported him.

“I used to tell every MLA during the election campaign that if the youth in your constituency respects me, why should they not respect you?” he said.

He alleged that although young people had now stood up to demand accountability, they were not even being given a place or a hearing.

Ruhullah warned that the people would ultimately reject the Chief Minister over what he described as a betrayal of public trust.

“This qaum will throw him out in such a way that he will never return as Chief Minister,” he said.
