1850-metre tricolour exhibited in Srinagar, Official says it is the longest in the country

Srinagar: A tricolour that is over 1850 meters long whichis the “longest” in the country, was on display here during an event that was attended by a crowd of 5,000, an official spokesman told reporters.

The tricolour was displayed in the Bakshi Stadium here under the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign in the context of “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” the official spokesperson quoted.

The Srinagar district administration has set the record of all time by waving the longest flag of the country to commemorate 75 years of Independence according to the official.

The ceremony was supervised by chief secretary Arun Kumar Mehta.

Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad, all district and sectoral officers and 5,000 residents attended the event to participate in the ceremony to raise the flag of the nation.

In his remarks at the event, the Chief Secretary applauded his district’s administration for organising this grand celebration of showing the 1850-meter-long tricolour that is expected to inspire a sense of nationalism and loyalty among the people.

More than 500 people took part in the rolling and unrolling of the flag, as required by the National Flag Code. Ten days were needed to sew the flag, the spokesperson stated.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “illustrious chapter in J&K history”.

“Scripting an illustrious chapter in J&K history. 1850 Metres long National Flag displayed in Bakshi Stadium, which witnessed participation of 5000 citizens. #HarGharTiranga,” J-K LG Manoj Sinha wrote on Twitter.
