The recruitment consists of 4 successive stages:

Stage 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)

Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for candidates using scribe)

Total Questions: 100 (Each of 1 mark)

Exam Pattern :

Objective type with multiple choices

Questions available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu)

Negative Marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer

Section-wise distribution may vary slightly in actual exam

Minimum Qualifying Marks :

UR: 40%

EWS: 40%

OBC-NCL: 30%

SC: 30%

ST: 30%

PwBD: May be relaxed by 2 marks in case of shortage

 

Syllabus (Indicative):

Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio & Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Simple & Compound Interest, Profit & Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern

General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical & Number Series, Coding & Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation & Sufficiency, Conclusions & Decision making, Similarities & Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement-Arguments & Assumptions

General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences of 10th standard level (CBSE)

General Awareness & Current Affairs: Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics, and other important subjects

Normalization: Marks will be normalized if CBT conducted in multiple sessions

Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

 

Shortlisting: 3 times the total vacancies (may vary) based on CBT merit

Nature: Qualifying (Mandatory to pass – marks not counted for final merit)

Important PET Notes :

Two-stage test: First weight carrying, then running (after recovery gap)

Failing in weight carrying means elimination (no running test)

Weight carrying involves lifting sandbag (without handle) from waist-height bench and carrying without dropping

Candidates’ responsibility to ensure medical fitness for PET – Railways not responsible for injuries

 

Exemptions from PET:

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) – must pass medical examination

Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA)

Ex-Servicemen (ExSM)

Pregnant Candidates: Must submit self-declaration. If pregnant, PET deferred till 6 weeks post-confinement. Vacancy kept reserved.

Stage 3: Document Verification (DV)

Shortlisting: 1:1 ratio of vacancies based on CBT merit + PET qualification

Candidates must produce original certificates

No additional time given – absence leads to candidature cancellation

Scanned copies to be uploaded before DV at https://oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv

Certificates must be in English/Hindi (translated version required otherwise)

Hard copy of signed application form to be brought

Stage 4: Medical Examination (ME)

Conducted by Railway Medical Authorities

Must pass requisite medical fitness test as per IRMM

Visual acuity standards strictly enforced

Medical appeal option available (one final opportunity on payment)

Candidates found medically unsuitable will NOT be given alternative appointment

Final Merit & Selection

Based on CBT marks (after normalization if applicable)

Subject to PET qualification, DV clearance, and medical fitness

Post/Railway allotment as per candidate’s preference, merit, medical fitness, and vacancy

In case of tie: Older candidate ranked higher; if age also same, alphabetical order of name (A to Z)

No right to appointment – RRB/RRC only recommends; appointment by Railway Administration

Important Reservation Rules:

For OBC-NCL Candidates:

Must produce OBC-NCL certificate issued on or after 01.04.2025 but not later than 02.03.2026

Certificate must be as per central list (http://www.ncbc.nic.in)

Must submit self-declaration (Annexure IIA) at DV that they don’t belong to Creamy Layer

Certificate must mention: “Does NOT belong to Creamy Layer as per DOPT OM 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 08.09.93, modified vide OM 36033/1/2013-Estt.(Res.) dated 13.09.2017”

OBC in state list but not in central list: NOT eligible for reservation

 

For EWS Candidates:

NOT covered under SC/ST/OBC-NCL

Gross annual family income < Rs. 8 lakh for F.Y. 2024-25

Family should NOT own:

5 acres or more of agricultural land, OR

Residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. or more, OR

Residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more (notified municipalities), OR

Residential plot of 200 sq. yards or more (other areas)

Family: Applicant, parents, siblings <18 years, spouse, children <18 years

Must possess valid Income & Asset Certificate (Annexure III) based on F.Y. 2024-25 income/assets

 

For PwBD Candidates:

Minimum 40% benchmark disability required for reservation/relaxation

Certificate as per Form V/VI of RPwD Rules 2024 (Annexure V-A/V-B)

Must submit Unique Disability Identity (UDID)

Suitability for posts indicated in Annexure-A

Eligible Disabilities:

VI (Visually Impaired): Blindness (B), Low Vision (LV)

HI (Hearing Impaired): Deaf (D), Hard of Hearing (HH)

LD (Locomotor Disability): OA, OL, OAL, BL, LC, DW, AAV, CP, SD (without neurological/limb dysfunction), SI (without neurological/limb dysfunction)

MD (Multiple Disabilities)

Temporary disability candidates NOT eligible for reservation (as per DePwD OM dated 17.12.2025)

 

For Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) :

Must have valid Ex-Serviceman Certificate from Zila Sainik Board

Serving defense personnel expected to be released within 1 year can also apply

Must submit NOC with probable discharge date (Annexure VI-A) at DV

Declaration/Undertaking (Annexure VI) required at DV

ExSM who already secured civil employment using ExSM quota: NOT eligible for ExSM reservation (only age relaxation available)

Different medical standards applicable (Para 534 of IRMM)

Best Education Loan Options for J&K Students 

For CCAA (Railway Establishments):

Must have completed Act Apprenticeship by 02.03.2026 (appeared in NCVT exam)

National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) from NCVT required at DV

Weightage: 1/3rd marks from NCVT examination added to CBT marks for merit

If NCVT weightage gives lower score, higher of the two will be considered

Exempted from PET

Can apply to any RRB (not just training Railway)

General Instructions for RRB Group D CEN 09/2025

Application Rules:

ONE application per candidate – Multiple applications will lead to rejection of ALL applications and debarment from future RRB/RRC exams

Choose only ONE RRB/Railway Zone (cannot be changed later)

Indicate post preferences within chosen Railway Zone

Partial options allowed (will be considered only for opted posts)

No change in preferences after submission

Online application only through official RRB websites (listed in Para 24.0)

Identity Authentication:

Strongly advised to authenticate using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation

Aadhaar-seeded bank account mandatory for fee refund

Candidates using alternate Photo IDs will face stricter scrutiny at all stages

Account Creation:

If already created account for CEN 2024/2025, use same credentials

Valid mobile number and email ID mandatory (will remain unchanged throughout recruitment)

Details in ‘Create an Account’ form CANNOT be modified

Application Modification:

Allowed from 05.03.2026 to 14.03.2026

Fee: Rs. 250/- per modification (non-refundable)

Can modify any number of times (except ‘Create Account’ details and Chosen Railway)

If changing from SC/ST to UR/OBC/EWS or from ExSM/Female/PwBD to non-reserved: Pay fee difference (Rs. 250/-) in addition to modification fee

No modifications entertained after 14.03.2026

Live Photo & Signature Upload:

Live Photo: Captured during application (NOT pre-existing photo)

Stand/sit in front of camera at eye level, face centered, neutral expression

Non-white clothing (preferably dark colors), no cap/mask/glasses

Applications with blurred/non-compliant photos liable for rejection

Signature: Running handwriting in black ink on white paper (scanned)

NO BLOCK/CAPITAL/DISJOINTED LETTERS

JPG/JPEG format, 30-49 KB, 140×60 pixels minimum

Signature must match at all stages (CBT/DV/ME/Appointment)

Scribe Facility (for eligible PwBD candidates):

Eligible: Blindness, Locomotor Disability (Both Arms – BA), Cerebral Palsy

Others: Only with certificate from CMO/Civil Surgeon (Annexure V-G)

PwBD <40% with writing difficulty: Certificate as per Annexure V-E required

Scribe must register at rrbapply.gov.in (One-Time Registration – OTR)

Candidate must enter scribe’s OTR number during 15.03.2026 to 19.03.2026 window

Scribe qualification: ONE step below candidate’s qualification

One scribe per candidate; scribe cannot be a candidate in same CEN

Compensatory time: 20 minutes per hour of examination

Examination Centers:

Allocated based on technical/logistical feasibility

Candidates may have to travel to other cities/states

No change of center/date/shift allowed

Banned Items at Exam Center:

Mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth devices, microphones, health bands

Calculators, books, pen, paper, pencil, eraser, pouch, scale, writing pad

Belts, handbags, caps, purses, cameras, water bottles, food items

ONLY e-call letter allowed inside test center

Pen will be provided during exam

No cloak room – advised not to bring valuables

Do not apply henna on hands/feet (obstructs biometric capture)

Important Warnings:

 

Debarment for life if found using unfair means, impersonation, forgery, misbehavior

Provisions of “The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024” applicable

Comprehensive post-exam analysis (log analysis, photo/biometric verification, CCTV review)

How to Apply for RRB Group D CEN 09/2025

Step 1: Create an Account (if not already created)

Visit official RRB website from the list at Para 24.0

Click on “Create an Account” link

Authenticate using DigiLocker/Aadhaar (strongly recommended)

Enter valid mobile number and email ID (CANNOT be changed later)

Complete OTP verification

Create login credentials

 

Step 2: Fill Online Application

Login with created credentials

Select CEN 09/2025

Choose ONE RRB/Railway Zone (CANNOT be changed)

Fill personal details, educational qualifications

Select post preferences within chosen Railway

Choose examination language (English/Hindi/Regional)

Capture live photograph using webcam/mobile camera

Upload scanned signature (JPG/JPEG, 30-49 KB, black ink, running handwriting)

Upload SC/ST certificate (if claiming free travel pass)

Indicate scribe requirement (if applicable)

Verify all details carefully

 

Step 3: Pay Application Fee

Select payment mode: Internet Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI

Pay Rs. 500/- (General/EWS/OBC-NCL Male) or Rs. 250/- (SC/ST/PwBD/Female/ExSM/Transgender/Minorities/EBC)

Complete payment (all service charges borne by candidate)

Save payment receipt

 

Step 4: Final Submission

After successful payment, application will be accepted

Receive confirmation via SMS and email

Download and save final application form

Note Application Number for future reference

 

Step 5: Modification (if required)

Window: 05.03.2026 to 14.03.2026

Login and modify details (except Create Account info & Chosen Railway)

Pay Rs. 250/- per modification

Pay additional fee if changing from reserved to unreserved category

 

Step 6: Enter Scribe Details (if applicable)

Window: 15.03.2026 to 19.03.2026

Login to application portal

Enter scribe’s OTR number

Enter OTP sent to scribe’s mobile to confirm
