02 infiltrators killed on LoC in Rajouri: Army

Two heavily armed infiltrators carrying three rifles and other war-like stores were killed by the Army during an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Lam Nowshera area of the Rajouri district in the Pir Panjal region.

The infiltration attempt was foiled by the Army during an anti-infiltration operation launched with J&K Police on LoC in the Lam area of Rajouri.

In an official statement, the Army said that in a joint operation with the J&K Police, the Army successfully foiled an infiltration bid of the terrorists in the Nowshera sector.

“Intelligence inputs were received since August 30, indicating the presence of terrorists opposite Nowshera Sector,” the Army said adding that all likely infiltration routes were kept under surveillance.

“Ground-based and aerial surveillance assets were employed to monitor the area,” the Army said. “The area domination patrols were also conducted with greater frequency, deploying troops at key terrain locations to prevent terrorist infiltration.”

The Army officials said, “At 7:30 pm on Sunday, surveillance teams detected suspicious movement of few individuals in the area and an intense firefight ensued.”

They said that the exchange of fire continued through the night.

“UAVs, night cameras, and other surveillance equipment were deployed to keep the terrorists under observation while two terrorists were killed in the gunfight,” the Army said.

It said that at first light on Monday, a search was carried out to clear the area of any remaining threats.

“A significant cache of war-like stores, including two AK-47 rifles, an M-4 rifle with sight and a pistol was recovered,” the Army said.

It said that the Army’s swift and coordinated response to the infiltration attempt highlights the synergy between the Army, J&K Police and the intelligence agencies.

The Army said that the search operations were continuing to completely secure the area.

“The Army remains alert and committed to defeat any such attempt in future,” it said
