Delay in recruitment at GMC for 300 Class-IV Posts

For thousands of aspirants from different districts of the Jammu province who have applied for recruitment to 300 Class IV posts of divisional cadre at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, their hopes are fading away due to the delay in the recruitment process.

The aspirants were seen approaching officials concerned to know the present status regarding the filling of the posts for which more than 85,000 candidates had submitted their applications manually in April-May this year.

However, of the 300 Class IV posts that were advertised by the GMC in April, there were 171 vacancies for open merit, while SC and ST had 24 and 30 vacancies, respectively.

There are many poor aspirants from far-flung districts like Rajouri, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban, who solely depend on this recruitment for getting jobs. In fact, at the time of submission of forms, which were submitted manually instead of online submission, some of the aspirants had to stay in the winter capital for more than a week facing many hardships,” Raj Kumar, an aspirant from Udhampur, said. “Though the maximum qualification to apply for the posts was higher secondary pass out, even graduates and postgraduates have applied for these posts due to high rate of unemployment,” he added.

Every time we ask the officials in the hospital administration about the delay in the recruitment process, they hesitate to reply about the actual position at the moment,” Pritam Dass, another aspirant, said.

“Almost all government hospitals are lacking adequate staff, particularly at lower level, and this inordinate delay would worsen things,” Kunal Sharma, an aspirant, maintained.

Meanwhile, Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, GMCH, said: “The reason for the delay is that the matter is sub judice. Further course of action can be done only after the court verdict.
