Ghulam Nabi Azad likely to launch his party Today

The name and symbol of the party are agreed upon and it’s only just a matter of a couple of days before the party can become real on the political map in Jammu as well as Kashmir.

The veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad who ended his five-decade-long relationship with the Congress in the month of September will likely announce his own party within the next couple of days.

“I am inviting the media to join me tomorrow (Monday) ahead of the debut of my party. I’m here to meet leaders and members,” Azad told reporters in a brief interview at his residence on arriving from Delhi.

A close aide of the former J&K chief minister has confirmed the news.

“He is having two back to back separate meetings with senior and second rung leaders later today,” he said, adding Azad is visiting Srinagar on September 27.

He also said that the name and symbol of the party are agreed upon and it’s only just a matter of a couple of days before the party can become real on the political map in Jammu as well as Kashmir.

Azad, 73, quit Congress on the 26th of August The 73-year-old quit Congress on August 26 and called the party “comprehensively destroyed”. Azad also criticised Rahul Gandhi for “demolishing” the party’s entire consultation mechanism.

More than two dozen notable Congress leaders , including the former deputy chief minister Tara Chand, several former legislators and ministers also resigned from the Congress to support Azad. Two former lawmakers, one each from both the PDP along with the Apni party, did the same.

He had earlier stated that the primary goals of his party are the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a state and ensure the land and employment rights of its inhabitants
