KPDCL sets prepaid power rolling in Kashmir: 55,000 consumers to pay tariffs in prepaid mode

Consumers will be able to pay their bills through the “Smart Bill Sahuliyat Platform,” a mobile application.

The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has made an important decision regarding the smart meters installed in the first phase. Starting from June 2023, consumers will be required to pay their electricity bills in prepaid mode.

Javed Yousuf Dar, the Chief Engineer of KPDCL, announced that approximately 55,000 consumers will begin using the prepaid mode for their electricity bills next month.

The smart meters installed in the first phase last year are eligible for prepaid conversion. Consumers will be able to pay their bills through the “Smart Bill Sahuliyat Platform,” a mobile application. The platform allows consumers to recharge their accounts according to their preferences, without any fixed amount.

In June 2023, consumers will begin by clearing their pending dues for the month of May, after which they will be eligible for prepaid conversion.

Dar also explained that after recharging, consumers will have the ability to check their balance and monitor their electricity usage.

Initially, prepaid services will be available for the 55,000 smart meters installed in the first phase. The remaining smart meters installed later will become eligible for prepaid services at a later stage.

To encourage consumers to register for prepaid services, the KPDCL has published an advertisement offering a 2% discount every month for consumers registered with the prepaid mode.

The advertisement emphasizes that consumers can register online, specifically mentioning that consumers with smart meters installed in the first phase are eligible for prepaid conversion.

It advises consumers to regularly recharge their accounts to keep their connection active. This will help them monitor their remaining balance and daily electricity usage through the Smart Bill Sahuliyat Platform.

In April of this year, the KPDCL announced that all prospective consumers applying for new connections will be registered on a prepaid basis. This move towards advanced technology aims to provide transparency and convenience to consumers. Smart meters with prepaid functionality for bill payment will be provided to consumers applying for new connections
